Start with the hide: undercoat, a green skin base, a matched ink in the recesses, then a two-stage highlight up the muscle. Then everything that makes a brute a brute: worn and rusted metal, leather and wood, big yellowed teeth, red daubed on for luck and speed, and white for the black-and-white checks slapped across every plate.

Every bottle is printed with an opacity marking, so you are never guessing whether a colour covers in one pass or two. The selection is not random. It is built on the warcolours colour wheel, so the skin, metal and grime work together instead of fighting each other. High-pigment, water-based acrylic in dropper bottles, plus a base-layer brush and a detail brush to put it all down.

1. 1Undercoat. Prime the model black to give the green above it depth.
2. 2Base and shade the skin. Green hide in one pass, then Sap Green ink drawn into the recesses.
3. 3Two-stage highlight. Build the muscle up through Green 2, then Green 1 for the brightest ridges.
4. 4Metal and rust. Silver on blades, dark Lead on worn metal, Sepia streaked in for rust and grime.
5. 5Details. Leather and wood, yellowed teeth and tusks, red accents, white for checks and glyphs.
