Everything you need to take an ordinary soldier from bare plastic to the front line, and the brushes to do it with. Twelve matched paints, two warcolours brushes, one clean workflow. Priced under the big-brand starter box while giving you more paint and better coverage.

Start with the uniform: undercoat, olive fatigues, a matched ink drabbed into the folds, then a highlight to catch the creases. Paint the face and hands and shade them warm. Then the kit that keeps a soldier alive: leather webbing and boots, a canvas bedroll, the metal of a rifle and bayonet, a red power cell, and white for the eyes and unit markings.

Every bottle is printed with an opacity marking, so you are never guessing whether a colour covers in one pass or two. The selection is not random. It is built on the warcolours colour wheel, so the uniform, flesh and kit work together instead of fighting each other. High-pigment, water-based acrylic in dropper bottles, plus a base-layer brush and a detail brush to put it all down.

1. 1Undercoat. Prime black. It doubles as the boots and rifle body.
2. 2Base and shade the fatigues. Olive uniform, then Olive Green ink drabbed into the folds.
3. 3Highlight. Catch the creases and raised cloth with a brighter olive.
4. 4Face and hands. Flesh base, warm Umber shade, then a flesh highlight on the brow and knuckles.
5. 5Kit and details. Leather webbing and boots, canvas bedroll, silver rifle, red power cell, white markings.
